Mother’s Day always seems to sneak up on us. It’s the same weekend every year, so we really don’t have a good excuse (save for it coming right on the heels of Derby Week), but fortunately, pulling together something special for mom doesn’t require a ton of prep work. We love to take advantage of the sunshine and warm weather typical in our area this time of year, and have a festive, al fresco brunch gathering, complete with fresh flowers, tasty eats with a lot of bright colors, and a little Hillsdale Furniture flair.
These are the recipes we’re eyeing for this year’s Mother’s Day Brunch menu, and please share your favorites with us in the comments.
A fruit salad is a lovely place to start, especially as produce season kicks into gear, but we also like the idea of focusing your efforts in this department. Consider a beautiful strawberry shortcake in a trifle dish, perhaps paired with greek yogurt instead of whipped cream. It will look AND taste delightful.
When it comes to entertaining, the more you can prepare ahead of time the better, and this is extra true for brunch gatherings when you need to ready earlier in the day. Enter a slab quiche, which can be prepped a day ahead and baked when you need it. We like Martha Stewart’s Spinach and Cheese Slab Quiche.
What brunch would be complete without some variety of breakfast potato? There are about a million ways to do these, but our favorite involves a good shredded potato with some veggies and a little crisp. For this purpose, we turn to The Pioneer Woman, and particularly, this recipe.
Of course, there also needs to be bacon. Lots of bacon. Have you tried preparing it in the oven yet? You should.
For the piece de resistance, may we recommend something with chocolate? To be more precise, these Dark Chocolate Waffles. Not only will it pair excellently with those strawberries, it will feel like dessert without being too over the top.
Add some fresh squeeze orange and/or grapefruit juice, and if you’re feeling festive, a bottle of champagne to make mimosas. A pot of coffee doesn’t hurt either.
Of course, we’re advocates for the hosts and hostesses to have just as much fun as the guests when entertaining, and a great, user-friendly kitchen is key to really enjoying the process. That’s where the Hillsdale Furniture Flemington Kitchen Island comes in. In addition to providing additional counter space to prep your meal (or even set-up a buffet so your guests can serve themselves), it has useful niches for everything from spices to dishes to glassware. It will look AND function well in any kitchen, and if you haven’t found a Mother’s Day gift yet, might we recommend it?
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there! We hope you have a fabulous day!
