It’s 90 degrees here at home this week. We’re not fans. It’s officially fall, and we’re ready for boots, scarves and vest weather. To get our minds off the heat, we’ll have to settle for dreaming of all our fall favorites, so we decided to build our dream fall bucket list today. The many things we’re hoping to enjoy between now and basically, Christmas. Consider it inspiration for starting your own bucket list.
Attend a really great fall festival.
Obvious, sure. But harvest-themed festivals are the best. We’re talking hayrides, bobbing for apples and corn mazes. It’s a yearly traditional we love. There are a bunch of options in our parts, but if there aren’t where you are from, check out this great list of festivals happening this season all across the U.S.
Bake with apples and pumpkins.
This is seriously our favorite time to be in the kitchen with our ovens on (or at least, it would be, if it wasn’t still stifling outside). We’ve got lots of big plans for cooking, but baking is also a priority this time of year. We’ve our eyes on this apple cake from our girl at Smitten Kitchen, and these spiced pumpkin cookies from Once Upon A Chef. And of course we’ll be roasting vegetables multiple times per week and reveling in soup season. What do you like to do in the kitchen in the autumn?
Kill it with the Halloween decorations.
We’re stuck in a rut when it comes to our Halloween decorations. Fall is a hectic season, and upping our game for trick-or-treaters just always ends up on the back burner. But this year, we have some seriously inspiring neighbors, and we want to keep up with the Jones Family, so to speak. These ideas from HGTV are a great place to start, and we chiefly want to focus on our front porch this year. Lots of pumpkins, lots of bats, maybe an extra creepy touch or two. Have any great ideas you go to year after year? Please share!
Go for a leaf peeping hike.
Here in our part of the country, where the leaves are mostly still green, and again, where it’s currently 90 plus degrees outside, we’ll probably need to wait on this one for a few weeks. But taking in the fall foliage is a favorite of ours, and around late October and early November, the parks turn into a riot of autumn color. If you’re looking to make a weekend out of it, here are a few places to plan a trip.
Attend a college football game.
This may not be for everyone, but there’s nothing like a drum line to get us in the seasonal spirit. We LOVE college football, and though we aren’t in the home state of our alma mater anymore, we have no problem cheering on the home team too. It’s time to put on the colors, break out our favorite tailgating recipes, and head to the stadium. Again, we’d prefer it were jacket season for all that tailgating, instead of sun baking season, but we’ll suit up either way. Really want to amp up your tailgating this year? These are some genius tips. See you at the game!
